Reel Indigenuity Mentorship Program
The Talking Stick Festival and the Reel Reservations: Cinematic Indigenous Sovereignty Series, are pleased to invite Indigenous youth to take part in this exciting inaugural program!
ABOUT
Open to Indigenous youth between the age of 14 – 30, Reel IndiGenuity! was designed to assist those who hold an interest in film and technology, capture the tradition of story telling by utilizing a new, contemporary and accessible voice to share their message; Social Media. Reel IndiGenuity! 2018 sets out to create these short films produced in its entirety using an iPhone and Snap Chat App to capture both the image and sound, making it the first of its kind to showcase this filming format.
Working with established industry mentors, participants will have the opportunity to learn how to create and finish short films while working with their peers in a team oriented environment.
TIMELINE
Registration Deadline: Nov. 27th, 2017

The program will run: Nov. 30th, 2017 to Feb 22, 2018
PROGRAM
This 12-week program will require commitment from participants to attend filmmaking workshops once a week for 3 hours.
During these workshops, you will learn new skills, and meet professionals and peers that will be invaluable to the success of this project and any future endeavours you take towards a career in the industry.
The first meeting will take place on Thursday, November 30th, 2017. We will continue to meet every Thursday for 3 hours until December 21, 2017. After December 21st, the program will break for holidays and will resume January 11, 2018.
On February, 15, 2018, we will announce teams, their mentors and team-specific snapchat accounts at the TSF 2018 Gala. The films will be made over a 2-3 day period with post-production taking place in the days and weeks leading up to the 2018 Talking Stick Festival.
The final version of your snapchat film will be screened at the Reel Reservations Opening Screening on February 22, 2018.

What happens if I am selected?
Upon selection, participants will be required to commit to the Reel IndiGenuity! project timeline in its entirety.
You will receive your program information package outlining the schedule of workshop series, film dates and post production with Indigenous mentors from the Vancouver Film community.
You and other participants will be placed in teams. This will be your film crew for the filming portion of the program.
You will sign a contract as a participant of Reel IndiGenuity.
You will receive an invite to our workshop series with Indigenous mentors from the Vancouver Film community.
You and a team of participants will produce a film shot and recorded on iPhone. Groups will go through the production/post process with the support of Reel Reservations and guidance from your group mentor.
Participants must reside or be able to commute to the Lower Mainland.
