Treasured Memories Contest

To honour our theme Cultivating Kin, we invite you to share a story about an object that holds special meaning in your life.

Do you have a keepsake, heirloom, gift, or everyday item that carries memory, emotional connection, or conjures a special experience? Perhaps it reminds you of a loved one, marks an important moment, or was passed down through generations.

We’d love to hear how this object connects you to your story, your community or your journey. Share a short reflection on its significance in your life. Selected stories will be featured on our website, celebrating the ways objects hold memory, relationship, and belonging.

My gramma made this wall pocket. My dad had kept his eagle feathers in it hung on the wall and promised it to me when he passed. I am a beader and this piece connects me to my Métis heritage with each antique bead she sewed 100 years ago.

This beaded headdress, created and gifted by a dear friend, hangs on my wall as a quiet reminder of who I am. Each thread carries memory, lineage, and love, a reminder of where I come from and the pride I carry in my Indigenous roots.

This was my mom’s guitar.  She would do her singing birthday card on her guitar for the family and friends. Loved and missed. Precious memories.
